She can lose her temper when people assume certain things about her (ex; People assuming that because she is a poor country it means she can be easy to harm, quite the opposite actually.) * The scars shown on her upper chest, right arm, left leg are from the Haitian invasion of the Dominican Republic. Haiti occupied Dominican Republic from 1822 to 1844. History: Christopher Columbus was the first to land on what is now Haiti and Dominican Republic and thus claimed the island for the Spanish Crown. Columbus would later leave thirty-nine men on the island, who then founded the settlement of La Navidad.
Diseases, new to the native population of the island, brought by the Europeans, quickly became one of the major causes of the deaths of the native Taíno people,
Malnutrition and a drastic drop in the birth rate would also contribute badly to the reduction of the native population.
Spain and his people passed laws which forbade the maltreatment of natives, endorsing their conversion to Catholicism. As a gateway to the Caribbean, Hispaniola became a haven for pirates. The western part of the island would eventually become settled by French buccaneers.
France and Spain eventually settled their hostilities of the ownership of the island by the Treaty of Ryswick in 1697, which would divide Hispaniola between two two of them. France received the western third, renaming it Saint-Domingue which would later become Haiti while Spain received what would later become Dominican Republic.
Saint-Domingue became what has been described as one of the most brutally efficient slave colonies. Although many of the new slaves died quickly from tropical diseases, smallpox, and typhoid.
Despite thriving so much, Haiti began to have her doubts about France.
Eventually, due to the influence from the massive slave population which greatly outnumbered the white population, Haiti started to fight against France's control.
This would later lead to several very bloody battles and rebellions against French control which would later grant Haiti her freedom and later declaring herself as "Haiti"
Haiti would grow and become the Empire of Haiti after declaring her (at the time unrecognized) independence.
She would become rather strict due to her first boss, Emperor Jacques I who wouldn't let any white people from owning property i nthe Empire.
After Jacques was assassinated, Haiti was split into being both the Republic of Haiti and the State of Haiti, which would last for five years until the President of the State of Haiti declared himself King Henri I over the Kingdom of Haiti.
After nine years however following Henri's suicide and his son's assassination, Haiti was finally rejoined into the Republic of Haiti.
It was then in 1825 that Haiti achieved complete independence from France, after paying him off.
However in 1849, the Second Empire of Haiti was founded by then-President Faustin Soulouque who named himself Emperor. Faustin was the one who encouraged Haiti to attempt to reconquer the Dominican Republic, but all four invasions failed, causing Faustin's people to doubt him and start the revolution.
He was exiled to Jamaica and was succeeded by Fabre Geffrard who then became President of the now completely unified Haiti.
Haiti proceeded to live a long time as a complete country, full independence and free of any empires or kingdoms.
But by the mid-1900s, more issues had started.
The Dominican Republic had began to kill thousands of Haiti's own people and cause more issues for her.
By the late 1990s, Haiti had issues against her own bosses, several which were removed from office. Eventually this would leave her as a rather poor country by the early 2000s.
The earthquake of 2010 became one of her worst in over two hundred years. The death toll between 46,000 to 85,000 people.
What had really shocked her was how she and France had issues for many years following her violent rebellion and yet he was the first to come to her aid with others following.
Although she is still trying to recover from the earthquake, she is still trying to make sure people will respect her in the modern day.
She still hates Dominican Republic to this day.Hetalia © Hidekaz Himaruya
